Alright friends and fam, it's coming down to the wire! Sorry I haven't posted in a few days, my energy level has literally been "shot down" - see what I did there? I know, I'm hilarious. UPDATE: My SONO & labs appointment on Friday in Dallas went well. I the counted at least 3 follicles that were already measuring in at 14mm (remember 15mm is the minimum for retrieval). So, STIMS are working, follies are growing and so far everything is right on schedule. They did add another injection to my list starting Friday, lucky me. The medicine is called Cetrotide. Basically, since my eggs are so close to maturity, this medicine will prevent me from ovulating on my own. They do this because the doctor wants to be able to control WHEN I ovulate so that he can be there to collect them before they spring free. Our next appointment is tomorrow (Monday) morning at 8:30am in Dallas. I expect those little follies to be almost ripe & ready, which means it's just about time to get down to business. Remember the goal is to have as many follicles as possible between 15 mm - 24mm. Any smaller than 15mm, or any larger than 24mm and the egg can't be used. My schedule right now says we'll be giving the trigger shot on Tuesday! This will tell the eggs it's time to evacuate and in EXACTLY 36 hours we'll have the egg retrieval!
The Egg retrieval is a pretty big deal. It would be quite uncomfortable without an anesthetic of some kind. I'll have a light general anesthesia. It's a quick sleep and a rapid wake-up with a little "hangover" or grogginess. The goal is to retrieve as many mature eggs as possible. They'll then be placed in a little petri dish in a lab (with Doug's sperm) where they'll grow for 3-5 days (more on this later).
This is all happening. Like NOW. I can hardly believe that it's finally here, I could literally burst with excitement and anticipation. Everything has gone smooth as silk so far (which is a rare thing for us, so everyone please, stop what you're doing and knock on some freakin wood).
I'll post more tomorrow morning after our appointment! Also, just in case thats not enough to look forward to, my sweet and hysterical husband will be writing an entry of his own sometime this week. You'll definitely want to stay tuned for that one.
Here's an updated calendar!
